I recently had the opportunity to undertake a re-wiliding event for urban souls at the CERES Community Centre Park in Melbourne, hosted by Claire Dunn, author of the book My Year Without Matches. We learned valuable skills of our ancestors that are crucial to survival, such as how to make string, the magical fox walk and of course, how to make fire using natural materials. Let me tell you, there is no finer feeling than the moment you create your first coal by simply rubbing two pieces of wood together and lighting your first real fire.
The day had a strong focus on reconnecting with the land that provides for us. It was very enriching and I felt honoured to be amongst a group of like-minded people.
To the wonderful souls at the Wild at Heart event, I thank you for allowing me to share the experience with you and letting me capture the moments from our day. I hope you all continue to practice the skills we learned and you find what you are searching for. To Claire, thank you for sharing your experiences with us, for writing your book and for inviting me.
